November 2017 Meet & Greet
The Socorro Branch of the AAUW includes members from Socorro, our nearby towns and communities, and the local university campus. We are very fortunate to live in a city with a Science, Engineering, and Research University – New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Along with professional development, health and safety, as well as outreach and education into our communities and campus, our branch also supports our local university and high school students each year through scholarships for higher education. We love being part of this community!

Who we are: Membership is open to individuals holding a degree (associates or beyond) from a regionally accredited college/university. There are no barriers on the basis of: gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class. In Socorro, we are a vibrant group of people who believe in supporting larger issues through our National organization, and we actively support our local communities and individuals too.
What we do: Nationally, state, & locally, our mission is to advance equality for women & girls through advocacy, education, research & philanthropy. Through our public policy program, lobbying & grassroots efforts promote policies that break through educational & economic barriers for women. When we meet: All monthly business meetings are open to members. These are times to learn what we’re up to, come up with new ideas, and discuss where we’re going. Meeting dates/time vary and sometimes include a potluck to encourage socialization among our members. We also have events, activities, presentations, and other fun things happening throughout the year for both members and non-members.
Where we are: For the Socorro Branch, our members live in and around the city of Socorro, as well as many of the smaller communities, villages and towns nearby. We have a local affiliate university, New Mexico Tech, which has an AAUW NMT Student Affiliate Organization group. We have a great community!
Why we do what we do: The #1 reason individuals join AAUW is their support of our mission. As members, our outreach is broadened by networking with diverse community groups of all ages that share our mission. Interested in food, fellowship, & learning as well as fun and games?
